Band

About Band

At Liberty, band is open to all students. There is no previous musical experience necessary! There are three band classes offered:

  • Beginning Band - This is where everyone starts. We start with learning/reviewing how to read music. We learn the basics of how to play our instruments (which are chosen the spring before) and gradually learn new notes and rhythms. We present two concerts, one in January and one at the end of the year.

  • Concert Band - This is the second year of band after students complete beginning band. We continue to develop our skills on our instruments and explore ensemble skills. This class presents a winter concert in December, performs for adjudication in March, and presents a year-end concert.

  • Symphonic Band - This is the third year of band after students complete beginning band and concert band. We continue to develop our skills on our instruments and our ensemble skills. This class presents a winter concert in December, performs for adjudication in March, and presents a year-end concert. This class also prepares students for band at the high school level.

About Mrs. Fabian

Ms. Fabian began her band career just before she began middle school in northern Virginia with her oldest sister giving her flute lessons. She found a home in her school band programs and pursued music education so that she could provide that experience to her students. She earned a bachelor of music in music education from James Madison University studying flute with Dr. Beth Chandler Cahill. She previously taught middle school and high school band in Alleghany County, Virginia. She is new to the Richmond area and is looking forward to many years at Liberty!
